For use in full sun as a groundcover, edging plant, in the rock garden, or cascading over rocks or walls. When grown in masses or used as a bedding plant, individual plants should be spaced approximately 24 inches apart. This selection can be propagated readily from cuttings or by division. Tidal Pool Speedwell will grow to be only 2 inches tall at maturity extending to 3 inches tall with the flowers, with a spread of 30 inches. Two-year-old plants have grown to 2" tall by 22" wide on a clay soil, and to 3" tall x 30" wide on a sand soil. Trial plants at the Garden have been through two winters and three summers without any cultural issues. The rest of the growing season, they settle into attractive groundcovers that seem to handle cold, heat, humidity, rain, and drought equally well. While regional in focus, the program’s plants can be grown successfully in all zone-appropriate regions of North America, Europe and around the world. The plants cover themselves with medium to deep blue-violet flowers from late April into mid-May.
